ZERO LANDFILL : An Upcycle Exhibition

This is a call to visual artists of all mediums to acquire free materials from the design industry and submit work for an exhibition that will reduce our impact on local landfills. This collection of works will be displayed at this year’s Bluegrass Bioneers Conference. Then it will travel to another location where the exhibition will continue to run for one month. 25% of sales will be donated to the ZeroLandfill effort.

Artists are invited to attend one or all of the 3 scheduled “harvests” to pick up materials that could possibly be used in their studio practice. There, they are encouraged to sign up to be apart of an exhibition of works created using said harvested materials. In the spirit of upcycling, the theme of the exhibition is “function.” Artists are to use discarded materials to upcycle them into a new object with a new function! Finished pieces do not need to be made only from materials from the ZeroLandfill, but must use some of these materials that will include: wall coverings, fabrics, carpets, vinyl, rubber, glass, tile, and laminates and much more.

ZeroLandfill is an award winning beneficial reuse program that supports the supply needs of local artists and arts educators while reducing the pressure on local landfill capacity.  Since 2006, the ZeroLandfill project teams have assisted the architectural and design community in identifying, diverting from local landfills and re-purposing back into the community thousands of pounds of various sample materials.
